Second edition in Italian (printed clandestinely as the first edition of Galileo's Dialogo was banned by the Vatican) quarto, title printed in red and black with engraved vignette, text illustrations, bound in full contemporary limp prachment, older signature to title and ffep, modern bookplate inside front board; foxing to contents and some occasional spotting, 9 x 6 3/4 in.
This edition contains essays by Kepler and Antonio Foscarini that seek to bring Galileo's findings into line with Vatican teachings. The text also includes the Vatican's condemnation and the statement Galileo was forced to make disavowing his own work.
