Antiphonal Manuscript in Wooden Boards.
Missa de Pentecostes.
Spain, 17th century.
Folio-format manuscript on parchment, consisting of leaves numbered 4 through 130 (lacking the first three leaves, the text supplied in a later hand on smaller-format wove paper; also lacking three internal text leaves: 121, 122, and 128); containing chants to be sung on the Sundays after Pentecost, beginning with the first Sunday and continuing through to the thirty-third Sunday after Pentecost; text in red and blue throughout, with large display initials done in fancy pen-work; the chants on five-line staves; bound in full contemporary blind-tooled goatskin over heavy wooden boards, catches attached to board edges, lacking the clasps; one large central brass boss on back board, five bosses on front with a later paper label, bottom board edges reinforced with metal; signs of use, generally well-preserved, 18 1/2 x 13 1/4 in.
