"Home - Secured."
Colored pencil on paper. 248x315 mm; 9 3/4x12 1/2 inches, image, on 12 1/4x14 1/2-inch sheet. Signed "Tom-82" in lower right margin. 1982.
Tom of Finland Foundation catalogue number 82.01.
Provenance: The artist, by private commission to Denis Morin, 1982.
Published: Dian Hanson, Tom of Finland XXL, Cologne: Taschen, 2009; 2021, page 504.
An exceptional color work by Tom of Finland. In a clever homage to the recipient, a good friend and resident Canadian, the breeches and boots of the soldiers are those of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It is also the only major color work to feature brown boots as opposed to his usual black.
Note: Original bill of sale from Durk Dehner included with the artwork. The artwork has remained in Morin's private collection and has never been exhibited.
Condition:
Image surface is richly colored and displays no flaws. Margins show some effects of previous framing: slight toning to very outer perimeters, three areas of archival mounting tape along top edge, and most visible are diagonal dark thin lines extending from corners, likely where set in dark metal frame or matte. Can likely be removed and restored by paper conservator.
Verso blank but for remnants of mounting tape at center of all sides.
