Divine Intervention. Variant of a drawing published in The New Yorker, July 29, 1985. Graphite on paper. 167x252 mm; 6 1/2x9 3/4 inches, on 8x10-inch sheet. Initialed "ST" in lower right image.
Steinberg's final published version of this drawing is among his papers at the Beinecke Library at Yale University.
Condition:
Some scattered spots of discoloration to background, especially in upper portion of the page, to left of initials, and along lower edge. Spot of discoloration above paintbrush. Some graphite ghosting. Sheet is mildly toned and is unevenly cut along upper edge. Soft creases to upper corners. Verso is blank with scattered spots of discoloration.
