"Le Baiser d'Or: la Courtisane et le Protecteur." Costume design for Les Baisers. Gouache on paper. 200x270 mm; 8x10 1/2 inches, on 10 1/4x13 1/2-inch sheet. Signed "Erté" in lower right image, titled and dated "1921" in artist's hand on verso with artist's stamp. See condition report. Tipped to board; matted and framed.
Condition:
Matte burn and uneven toning, with scattered foxing and discolorations. Some soft creases to lower portion of sheet, including two vertical near lower center and two horizontal running diagonally (crosses over feet of both figures). Thin 6-inch natural buckle in paper fibers, which is moderately visible on recto beginning in left margin and running through woman's elbow to end in skirt just above the thigh. Verso indicates possible stabilization with an archival liquid.

Artist's stamp at upper center. Written beneath: "Les Baisers/ No. 8 et 9: 'Le Baiser d'Or'/ No 8 - 'La Courtisane'/No 9 - 'Le Protecteur'/ x- 1921/N 496." Illegible graphite notations at right and small red mark in lower left corner. Strip of brown tape along upper edge. Tipped to board with archival tape. Matted and framed.
