First edition, two octavo volumes, illustrated with large folding map printed in black and green (short tear at fold, old tape repair), seven full page plates (two of which are bound as frontispieces in each volume, one is a single-page map), and six wood engravings in the text; bound in uniform contemporary publisher's ribbed brown cloth, stamped in blind, with large gilt pictorial emblem of a rider on horseback on both, gilt lettering and stamp of a Native American with a drawn bow on both spines, neatly rebacked, endleaves renewed, one signature at the beginning of the first volume slight sprung, 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 in.
