First edition, octavo, illustrated with folding plate, and thirty-three text illustrations, sixteen pages of publisher's ads dated May 1872 after text; bound in publisher's original textured purple-brown pebbled cloth, embossed in blind on both boards, titled in gilt on spine, with a large gold-blocked orchid on front board, brown coated endleaves, some minor bumping to endcaps, short area at top joint worn through (less than 1/2 in.), spine faded, 7 3/4 x 4 3/4 in.
