Paris: Chez Constans, & Henry Gaugain, Lambert, & Cie., n.d. [1825-30].
Girodet ultimately produced 166 drawings to illustrate Virgil's Aeneid. His classical approach emphasizes idealized nude human forms throughout. Muscular soldiers and sailors abound in these delicately rendered lithographic versions of the original drawings. The touching story of the soldiers Nisus and Euryalus is illustrated here, friends and lovers who tragically die together in Book Nine.Paris: Chez Constans, & Henry Gaugain, Lambert, & Cie., n.d.
