Hockney's photograph of his lover and muse Peter Schlesinger standing on a balcony in their room at the Hôtel de la Mamounia in Marrakesh was part of a series of photographs taken on their trip to Morocco that became studies for his 1971 painting "Sur La Terrasse." This work was Hockney's final depiction of Schlesinger in their time together.
