Locke, John (1632-1704) Further Considerations Concerning Raising the Value of Money. Octavo, A-H8; disbound, issued anoymously, Locke's name added in a contemporary hand to title, with holes along the gutter margin from original stab-sewing, removed from a bound volume of short tracts, now disbound, 6 x 3 3/4 in. London: Printed for A. & J. Churchil at the Black Swan, 1695.
First edition. A reply to William Lowndes's A Report Containing an Essay for the Amendment of the Silver Coins. Locke favored a direct relationship between the face value of currency and the value of its metal content, whereas Lowndes asserted that a central bank should be able to set the currency's value at will, based on the economic needs of the country. Wing L-2745; ESTC R23043.
