Alphonsus de Spina (d. circa 1494) Fortalitium Fidei contra Judeos Saracenos. Quarto, [pi]10, a-z8, &8, A-L8, M10 (M10 integral blank present), text printed in gothic letter in double columns throughout, initials supplied in red; bound in full contemporary blind-tooled alum-tawed pigskin over square-edged wooden boards, catches present, lacking one clasp; some wear and tear to spine, title page dusty, a bit of staining to text, 9 x 6 3/4 in. Nuremberg: Anton Koberger, 25 February 1494.
Published anonymously in five incunabula editions beginning in 1475, Spina's work provides a playbook of pro-Christian defensive arguments for its clergy and adherents. Each of the five books focuses on a specific enemy of the faith: those who deny Christ's divinity; heretics; Jews; Muslims; and finally, the devil and his minions.
