(COUNTRY MUSIC--GRAND OLE OPRY)
A group of approximately 43 portraits of country music stars, many of whom appeared on the legendary Nashville stage.
A snapshot of country music in the late 1940s, when the art form was still in its commercial infanthood. Mostly including formal studio headshots, but a few show the musicians with their instruments or on stage. Highlights include Ernest Tubb (the Texas Troubadour), Texas Ruby, Lefty Frizzell, Rosalie Allen (the Queen of Yodeling), Zeke Clements, Tex Ritter, Zeb Turner, Wally Fowler, and Floyd Tillman. Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 9½x7½ inches (24.1x19.1 cm.), and slightly smaller and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger, nearly all with the sitter's name, in pencil or in ink, and many with an Opry performance date, additional notations, and/or studio hand stamps, on verso; including a couple duplicates. Circa 1947-50
