A remarkable collection of 40 photographs detailing the insurmountable destruction throughout San Francisco caused by the catastrophic 'quake and subsequent fire of 1906.
The photographs document dramatic destruction throughout the city, with images of partially collapsed and toppled buildings; streets strewn with debris and gaping sinkholes; historic landmarks reduced to rubble; and one image of "relic seekers after the fire." Another image shows two men posed with a retrieved cash register. Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 5x7 and 6½x8½ inches (12.7x17.8 and 16.5x21.6 cm.), and the reverse, many with captions in the negative, and a few with captions, in ink, on recto or verso. 1906
