Lot 33
(TINTYPES)
Collection of approximately 120 tintypes, including many remarkable portraits, occupational, and leisure views, with multiple full-plates. With an unusually large plate of a "carnie" holding a flat paddle and standing alongside a Wheel of Chance, a photographer posing with his camera, a sword swallower, various dogs on their hind legs, a 2lb. potato, young women enjoying a hand-tinted slice of watermelon in the studio, a tabletop still life, an elegant woman hiding her face behind a fan, a top-hatted gentleman in a hall of mirrors, and an African American man riding a long-horned bull. Full-plate (10), half-plate (12), quarter-plate (6), sixth-plate (50), ninth-plate (39), and gems (3); given the inconsistent nature of tintype sizing, all sizes are approximate. 1870s-1910
Estimate $2,500 - 3,500
