(CHINA)
A missionary album from China, apparently related to the Christian & Missionary Alliance, primarily set in Wuhu, with approximately 58 photographs of missionaries, local people, school groups, and scenery.
Includes views of the mission buildings, including a hospital, schools, and a chapel in Wuhu (the first C&MA location in China), Wuchang, Nanjing, and more; also with formal portraits of students and other Chinese figures associated with the mission work and the missionaries themselves at conferences in Wuhu and elsewhere, and some informal family snapshots from a single missionary family. Also with views of flooded Wuhu streets (the city is located on the Yangtze River), a rice field, children, temples, and candid street scenes. Printing-out paper and silver prints (four hand-tinted), most of the images measuring approximately 2½x2 to 5¾x4¼ inches (6.4x5.1 to 14.6x10.8 cm.), some cut out, and 6x8 inches (5) (15.2x20.3 cm.), mounted recto/verso, most with captions, in pencil, below the images. Oblong 4to, ½ leather over gilt-lettered cloth, backstrip starting; housed in a custom clamshell box. Circa 1907
