(KU KLUX KLAN—ALABAMA)

Group of approximately 140 press photographs and photostatic prints of southern Klan

leaders and KKK activities in Alabama.

Most of the pictures depict prominent Klan figures’ faces, including Grand NationalWizard Robert

Shelton, as well as robed klansmen posing and parading, Black Power activists protesting, Klan

members on trial, and more. Silver and photostatic prints, the images various sizes ranging from

3x2 to 8x10 inches (7.6x5.1 to 20.3x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, with caption information and/or

hand stamps on verso; the prints are housed, singly and in groups, in Kraft envelopes with typed

captions and dates. 1937-91

Although most of the images depict scenes and figures from the 1960s-70s, there are earlier

photographs of marches in DC and local cross burnings. Images of white supremacists include:

William Chaney, Bennie Jack Hays, J. Robert Jones (Grand Dragon), William Hugh Morris

(Director), Joe Michael Garner (being arrested), William James Oscar, Robert Shelton (Grand

Wizard), Dr. Lycurgus Spinks, and Bill Wilkinson (Imperial Wizard).
