This very long cascade of paint by Frank Bowling is from the first year

of his important 1970s series of “poured paintings”, and only the second

of such work to come to auction. Beginning in NewYork in 1973, the

artist used a tilting board platform to control the flow and descent of the

acrylic paint vertically down the canvas.With its beautiful stained and

poured surface, this work epitomizes the artist’s groundbreaking

exploration of paint application in the early 70s. Organized by Dr.

Courtney J. Martin,TheTate Museum, Britain recently held an exhibition

of these abstract paintings with
