inches, full margins. Signed in pencil, lower right, and signed by the printer, Otto Felsing,

in pencil, lower left. A brilliant, richly-inked impression of this very scarce, early print,

with all the delicate lines distinct, with warm plate tone and velvety, dark burr.

Born in Norway, Munch (1863-1944) lived intermittently in Berlin during the peak of

his artistic creativity, from 1893 to 1908. He returned to Berlin only briefly and

sporadically following World War I, settling into a mostly reclusive and quiet remainder

of his career on his estate outside of Oslo.

We have found only 3 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Schiefler 155;

Woll 177.

The sitter was incorrectly identified by Schiefler as Bruno Cassirer’s daughter. She is in

fact Suse (Suzanne Aimée) Cassirer, born circa 1894, the daughter of the influential Berlin

art dealer/publisher Paul Cassirer (1871-1926). Schiefler 248;Woll 278.
