. . . Our office has been literally full all day and I look for no leisure for a long time to come. I

have heard nothing new here except the sudden death of young Mr Gilchrist . . . . His death

was occasioned a week ago last night by taking, it is believed by mistake, a large quantity of

laudanum. . . . I hope you and Benny are well, dearest . . . . All well at the rectory and the

house . . . .Tell dear Benny that Father sends his love and expects him to be a very good boy.”
