Rebecca, a Slave
Child from New Orleans.
Group of 4
cartes-de-visites of this light-skinned
child, a favorite of the abolitionists.
Np, circa 1863-1865
[500/750]
Two of these four carte de visite photographs are
No’s 2 and 5 from a large series of images of
slaves issued by Charles Paxton, often sold to
raise funds for the Freedmen’s Aid Society and
other charitable groups. These four images show
Rebecca in several poses with her hair in tight
braids as well as loose at her neck.
