. A moving collection of
intimate vignettes of Dr. King’s last year.
Kodak, 1989
[5,000/7,500]
The works selected for this portfolio were chosen from the travelling exhibition of the same name.
Moments captured by Fernandez include images of Dr. King playing a game of catch with his sons,
marching arm-in-arm with Dr. Benjamin Spock at the Anti-Vietnam War Protest on April 4,
1967, as well as tense and contemplative candid portraits of Dr. King. Perhaps the most arresting
image is that of his children gathered together viewing his body with his youngest daughter, 5-year-old
Bernice, peering over the casket, mouth agape, overcome with shock.

[800/1,200]
A heartbreaking image that captures Medgar Evers’s eight-year-old daughter, Reena, as she wipes
away tears at his funeral. Evers was a Civil Rights Activist in Mississippi who tirelessly advocated to
overturn Jim Crow laws. Shortly after President John F. Kennedy’s televised Civil Rights Address on
June 12, 1963, Evers was shot in the back as he exited his car in the driveway of his home. He
received full military honors before being buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
