Inez Nathaniel Walker was born into poverty in South Carolina in 1911. For most of her life she
worked as a farmhand. She began drawing while imprisoned for homicide in the late 1960’s, and her
work was championed by the prison’s English teacher. This example was done after her 1972 release.
