A collection of Texas folk tales, illustrated

by John Biggers (1924-2001). Biggers was one of the first, if not the first African-American artist to

travel to Africa numerous times to familiarize himself with the styles and designs of tribal African

arts. Despite the large edition, this is the first copy of this we have seen.

Inge Hardison, an accomplished painter, sculptor, photographer and educator, was born in 1914 and is

well-known for the series she dubbed “Negro Giants in History” done for the Old Taylor distillery in

the early 1960’s. This casting of Harriet Tubman differs from image of Tubman in the series.
