FIRST EDITION OF A SCARCE REGIMENTAL HISTORY
, written by its members. The 19th trained
replacements for troop losses abroad, as well as caring for huge numbers of victims of the terrible
influenza pandemic of 1918-1920. Camps like Jackson were needed to handle the sheer volume of sick,
dying and dead. The 19th also had a large “minstrel” troupe, illustrated at a centerfold on pages 69-70.

salesman is provided with all sorts of “pitches,”
in the form of “Sales Talk” at the front of the
book, and just in case he actually does sell a
copy there are ample pages of order forms at the

A touching photograph of three friends in uni-
form, who in all likelihood enlisted together.
There were training programs like ROTC at
historically black colleges like Howard as early
as 1916. These three young men might well
have been part of such a program. The
Wilmington Light Infantry trained in
Wilmington, Delaware.
