KU KLUX KLAN.
3 Photographs: Lynching * Older Klansman seated *
Klan person with horse, possibly a woman.
5 x 7 and 5 x 4 inches, all from the same
album sheet.
[Springfield, MO, circa 1920
[1,500/2,500]
A rare instance of having an image of the person lynched and quite possibly one of the “lynchers.” All
three of these photographs came from the same album. Not in James Allen’s monumental work
“Without Sanctuary” (Twin Palms, 2003).

KU KLUX KLAN.
Directory Reliable Business Men. Philadelphia, Pa,
1926.
12 pages of businesses. Tall, narrow 12mo. Original printed cardstock covers.
Np, 1926
[300/400]
Nothing overt is mentioned in this little directory, but the suggested camaraderie of these “reliable
business men,” as well as the message printed on the rear cover—“He to whom this directory comes in
contact may feel sure he will lose nothing by patronizing these Reliable Business Men”—hints at
something more than a normal directory. The minimal size (2
3
⁄
4
x 5 inches) is also a bit unusual. This
also comes at the peak period of the re-forming of the Klan.
