Los Angeles: Black Panther Defense Fund circa 1969
[800/1,200]
Two worthy programs from the Panthers in Los Angeles. Free Busing was a program that provided
transportation for relatives of black and Latino men who were incarcerated in California prisons. The
second piece was part of a program to build a solid defense fund for black and Latino men. It was clear
that public defenders, even when they really did care, simply didn’t have the time or the resources to
mount adequate defenses for their clients.
