A pardon issued by the viceroy of New Grenada to the participants in the Comuneros insurrec-

tion. The rebellion’s leader José Antonio Galán had already been decapitated, drawn and

quartered, but by this decree his body was to be removed from public display and given a

Christian burial. This early example of Bogotá printing is illustrated with an engraving of the

Viceroy’s seal, believed to be the first engraving printed in what is now Colombia. Medina,
