One of the fundamental sources for the history of the Jesuit missions in
Sinaloa, with several references to California and Florida. Of particular interest is Chapter XII
of Book VII, which includes an account of Don Pedro Porter y Casanate’s voyage along the
California coast, and the text of Fr. Jacinto Cortes’ letter describing his unintentional visit to
the “islas de Californias” in 1642, with an important description of the local Indians.
