“To M. Eliza Gregg, with the affectionate regards of her brother, Josiah.” “Chief contemporary
authority on the Santa Fe trade-route and traffic”—Howes G401 (“b”). The recipient was
Martha Eliza McClellan Gregg (1818-1876). The volume also bears later ownership inscrip-
tions from her husband John Gregg (1800-1888), their daughter Alla Gregg (1844-1876),
and Martha’s nephew Gregg W. Pickett (1845-1922), all dated in Texas. Graff 1659; Sabin
