EINSTEIN, ALBERT. Typed Letter Signed, “A.Einstein,” to author Sholem
Asch, in German, thanking him for sending his new book about “our No. 1 Hero”
[Moses?], and remarking that one finds in him a hero worthy of respect, unlike most mus-
cular heroes of legend. 1 page, 4to, personal stationery; faint scattered paper-clip stains at
top and bottom edges, folds.

I thank you for sending your new work about our number one hero. Putting aside whether he
actually existed and whether he is truly portrayed in the Bible, he really was a guy for whom
one must show respect—not like most legendary heroes who are little more than a bundle of
muscles.”
Sholem Asch (1880-1957) was a Jewish-American novelist who wrote in Yiddish. Among his
other novels, plays, and essays, Asch’s novel
Moses
was published in 1951.
