An archive of 305 photographs pertaining to the Charles F. Elmes Engineering Works of
Chicago, Illinois.
With multiple graphic images of machinery used for bending, pressing, boring, drilling, extruding,
moulding, pumping, forging, and forming, both in-situ and removed from their backgrounds, almost
all bearing the company name. Silver prints (301) and cyanotypes (4), the images measuring 8

to 8x11 inches (22.2x17.8 to 20.3x27.9 cm.), nearly all with an inventory number in the negative,
and most with a date stamp and information table on verso, identifying the machine name, its
specifications and for whom it was manufactured; with approximately 130 of the silver prints housed
in an original company binder separated by type with labeled dividers. Oblong 4to, black leatherette
with gilt lettering and a 2-ring binding; lightly worn. 1938-40s
