This dark impression is an extremely scarce example of a proof from Catlett’s 1946-47 important

series of linoleum cuts

.We have located only one other early impression with

this tone of green ink in the collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art - it is signed and dated

1947. A later edition of 20 was printed at Robert Blackburn’s Printmaking Workshop, NewYork,

in 1989, and entitled

I am the BlackWoman
