Canine companions have long been a preoccupation for countless amateur photographers as well as an
especially well-known 20th-century fine artist. The dogs depicted in this lot clearly enjoyed a wonderful
life: most are shown with their adoring owners, while others are seen sleeping, ready to eat a treat, gazing
out a window, posing on a car hood, sniffing around, or wolfing down a meal. Some of the subjects
actually appear to be smiling.
