Condition B+: light creasing in upper and lower image; repaired tears, restoration and overpainting at
edges and corners.
British-born Mayo was a painter, illustrator and printmaker. She moved to Australia in 1953 and
designed a series of posters highlighting some of the continent’s exotic wildlife, including koalas and
the Great Barrier Reef. This poster, with a “kangaroo atop a stark desert landscape, and its typography
influenced by Aboriginal art, is one of the most notable Australian travel posters ever produced”
(Trading Places p. 8). Mayo is best regarded for her rendering of animals, which appear in all of the
