As Art Director for Wrigley, Shepard also worked for the Chicago Cubs. William Wrigley, Jr., owner
of the gum company, was also the owner of the baseball franchise from 1921 to 1970. In 1926, he
renamed the team’s ballpark Wrigley Field. Shepard designed the programs, scorecards and other
collateral material for the team. His designs for the Cubs were marked by their modernist style and
were as appealing as his posters for the chewing gum. This image also appeared on the team’s 1953
official program.
