In 1935, Cassandre designed this image for Nicolas, the wine merchant, which was never published.
In 1984, the image was repurposed by Willi’s Wine Bar and issued as their first poster. This is one of
the rare copies from the first printing, which was printed under the supervision of Henri Mouron,

Loupot was one of the leaders of the French Art Deco school of graphic design. He is commonly
associated with his colleagues A. M. Cassandre, Jean Carlu and Paul Colin. Loupot was the only one
to use metallic ink in his work; gold in
O Cap
and silver in this image. Zagrodski refers to this image
as “an exceptional purist design” (Zagrodski p. 77).
