A. M. CASSANDRE (ADOLPHE MOURON, 1901-1968)
76
BK EMAILE. 1930.
19x14 inches, 49x37 cm.
Condition A: minor restoration in corners.
Through his connection with the advertising agency Nigh and van Ditmar, Cassandre worked for
major Dutch clients like Oranjeboom beer, Holland America Line, De Vries Robbe, Phillips and Van
Nelle. For this enamel company, to promote their range of cookware, he creates a predominantly typo-
graphic image in which the letters of the company’s name themselves appear to be holding and
pouring the kettle. The kettle is the company’s logo and its appearance is meant to assure the con-
sumer of the quality of the product, and that the pot is safe to cook with (literally “poison free”).
Notice how the background colors are the reverse of the large letters in the company's name.
