Bayer began his studies at the Bauhaus in mural painting and typography between 1921 and 1923. In
1925 he returned as a teacher. In 1928 he moved to Berlin, where he took up positions with German
Vogue
and as director for the Dorland advertising agency. For their New Year’s card, Bayer moves
towards Surrealism, creating a sophisticated composition on cream-laid Japan paper. MOMA
