MacDonald’s fourth state (of 4) with the printer’s name partially removed. Printed by Delâtre, Paris. From Douze Eaux-fortes d’après Nature . A very good, dark and richly-inked impression. MacDonald’s third state (of 3), with the cancellation lines unobtrusive. A very good impression of this scarce print. According to Kennedy, “Only 4 impressions are known before cancellation of the plate.” MacDonald notes that the canceled plate was acquired by the Fine Art Society, London, in 1879, and they issued a small edition (certainly more than the 4 cited by Kennedy). Later, Wunderlich & Co., New York, acquired the plate and published “a fairly limited edition of at least 12 in 1889.” Kennedy 81; Glasgow 81. [2,000/3,000]
