Provenance: the Johnson Publishing Company, Inc., Chicago. Born in Jackson, MS, painter, sculptor and art history professor James Edward Kennedy has been an active and influential artist and educator in Mobile, Alabama for decades. He received his BS degree from Alabama State College and his MAT degree from Indiana University. He held both teaching and administrative positions in the Mobile County School System, before joining the faculty of the University of South Alabama in 1968. He taught painting, design and Afro-American art history, as well as serving as the Advisor for the minor program of Afro-American Studies. He also helped found the Ethnic American Art Slide Library at the University in 1969. He was later included in the important survey of Southern artists, Black Artists/South at the Huntsville Museum of Art, Huntsville, AL, April 1-July 29, 1979. His paintings were featured in the recent exhibition 5 Mobile Artists at the Mobile Museum of Art, October 6, 2017 – January 7, 2018. [1,000/1,500]
