Provenance: the Johnson Publishing Company, Inc., Chicago. Born in Lexington, Georgia, painter and printmaker Shirley Bolton received her BFA in 1966 and her MFA in 1970 from the University of Georgia. Her work was included in The First Annual Atlanta Life National Art Competition and Exhibition and several group exhibitions at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta in the 1970s and early 80s. Bolton is included in Samella Lewis and Ruth Waddy’s 1971 survey Black Artists on Art, Volume 2 . Her artworks were acquired by the collections of the Carnation Milk Company, Los Angeles, the Clark Atlanta University, and the University of Georgia, Athens. Lewis/Waddy pp. 44-45, 134.
