London: Jarrolds, 1933. [400/600] first edition of the autobiographical work and story of one of the first gender con ­ firmation surgeries , performed on Danish painter, Lili Elbe in 1930. Elbe, born Einar Wegener, was the spouse and model of the artist Gerda Wegener. Although the book is listed as written by Niels Hoyer, a pseudonym for Ernst Ludwig Hathorn Jacobson, Lili was the true author of the book. Jacobson, Elbe’s friend and editor, assembled and edited her letters and diary, and dictated material to form the book.
