The existential story, about characters trapped in a cylinder and planning their escape, was the inaugural work of the New Overbrook Press, a rebirth of Charles Altschul’s Overbrook Press, founded in 1934 and which continued through 1969. Klabunde’s grotesque, surreal images perfectly reflect Beckett’s text, which he translated from the original French version, Le Dépeupleur, in 1972 for Grove Press. 34 32 33
