Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica Tabula. Hand-colored double-page engraved double-hemispheric world map. 15x21 1 / 2 inches sheet size, margins shaved to the platemark, Spanish text on verso; centerfold strengthened with small amounts of infill, few small closed edge tears. Burden 336, state 2. Amsterdam, 1641 [3,000/5,000] 88 c   HOWELL, READING. A Map Of The State Of Pennsylvania. Large engraved map on wove paper. 24x38 3 / 4 inches sheet size, wide margins with deckle edges; central vertical crease reinforced on verso, several minor edge chips and repairs, but a crisp impression and generally quite nice. Philadelphia: Kimber & Conrad & Johnson & Warner, [1811] [600/900] An attractive copy of this scarce reduced-scale issue of Howell’s important 1792 map of the state. Engraver John Vallance adds skillful decorative elements to the geography, embellishing the title cartouche and adding a small vignette of the Schuylkill Permanent Bridge, the first covered bridge spanning a major American river. Ristow 108-110.
