Silver contact print, the image measuring 4 3 / 4 x6 3 / 4 inches (12.1x17.1 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, with Hine’s Interpretive Photography, Hastings- on-Hudson hand stamp and his title, date, and numeric notations, in pencil, on verso. 1912; printed circa 1931 [7,000/10,000] Originally from the Collection of Isador Sy Seidman. A master print that illustrates Hine’s remarkable eye and ability to capture dramatic scenes inspired by Charles Dickens’ social realist novels. American child laborers endured unusually long work days in wretched conditions, sacrificing their health and educational opportunities.
