With images of the fighters drawing in, dodging, and spearing the bulls, in a stadium plastered with graphic advertising along the bleachers for products such as Orange Crush, Blue Bird Beer, and Westinghouse Radios; credited to José Valverde. Silver prints, the images measuring 7 1 / 2 x9 1 / 2 inches (19.1x24.1 cm.), and the reverse, each with the photographer’s credit and an identifying caption in the negative, and half (10) with lengthy and affectionate inscriptions, from the depicted bullfighters to the photographer, in ink, on recto. 1940s [1,200/1,800] 374 c   (WOMEN’S CALISTHENICS) Playful group with 23 photographs, some graphically hand-painted, depicting women partaking in fitness and stretching routines. The images mostly document “Reduce for Defense” and “Keep Fit for Victory” programs in an effort to promote fitness on the home war front. Including exercises such as f loor-stretching, 3-stair climbing, basketball, stooping, extensions, and vibration therapy on the all-American exercise belt. Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 7x9 inches (17.8x22.9 cm.), and the reverse, some with editor’s retouching marks on recto, and each with various notations, in pencil, hand stamps, and press clippings on verso.
