Acquired from Jack Shainman Gallery; to a Private Collector, in the early 2000s. These jubilant photographs record the people of Bamako, Mali, andmay be displayed as an installation (or ensemble), in smaller groups, or singly. Individually the photographs are compelling visual documents that have a spontaneous feel, including the studio portraits; collectively they convey the celebratory nature of “community,” which is enhanced by the vividly colored surrounds.
