Silver print, the image measuring 10 3 / 4 x13 3 / 4 inches (27.3x34.9 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, with Smith’s notation 9, in pencil, his Estate hand stamp, and numeric notations, in an unknown hand, on verso. 1951; printed 1960s   [2,500/3,500] Acquired by a Private American Collector, circa 1992. The number 9, handwritten by Smith on print verso, refers to his grading system. Smith made copy prints either because the original negative was lost or because he wished to diminish the tonal contrast. 169 170
