Linoleum cut printed in green and black on imitation Japan paper, circa 1952. 452x425 mm; 17 5 / 8 x16 1 / 2 inches, wide (full ?) margins. Artist’s proof, printed circa 1957. Signed and titled pencil, lower margin. Elizabeth Catlett’s iconic image Sharecropper was first printed in 1952 - that year it won her second prize in graphics at the Atlanta University Annual Exhibition with the title Negro Woman . This early proof is a scarce impression of the linoleum cut in color bearing the title Cosechadora de Algodón . Catlett used this title when her print was illustrated in the journal Artes de México in 1957.
