Tintype, 2 1 / 2 x 2 inches oval to sight, in period 3 1 / 2 x 3-inch case with gilt flag on front cover; minor wear to case, with joint coming loose. Np, circa 1860s [250/350] A reverse image of an engraving of Banks; his reversed facsimile signature can be seen faintly below the portrait. 81 c (PHOTOGRAPHY—CIVIL WAR.) Group of 23 cartes-de-vistes of Union leaders and more. Each about 4 x 2 1 / 2 inches, various conditions. Vp, circa 1861-65 [500/750] Includes Seward (in a rare 3 / 4 pose), Cameron, McDowell, McClellan, Grant, Blair, Breckinridge (in Union uniform), and Butler. John Brown and John Wilkes Booth are both represented. Also included are more peripheral figures of the era such as Kate Chase Sprague, the Prince of Wales, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, British anti-Confederate politician John Bright, and even the Siamese twins Chang and Eng.
